The Raging Skillet with Celebrity Cutting-Edge Chef Rossi
Welcome to The Nancy Ferrari Show! In this episode, I introduce you to Rossi, yes, she only has one name – who is the owner and executive chef of The Raging Skillet, a cutting-edge catering company known for breaking any and all rules, and has earned a reputation as the one to call when it’s time to do something different.
Rossi has been catering for 26 years and has seen it all as she started as a bartender on a floating tourist trap of a ship in Seaport in NYC, then turning her love of feeding others into become a chef in the 80’s when women were not welcome in professional kitchens, cooking a Ground Zero after 9/11, surviving Hurricane Sandy to cater and speak for Ms Magazine, all the while with humor and recipes.
The Raging Skillet has been called “a new breed of rebel anti-caterer” by The New York Times, “the wildest thing this side of the mason Dixon line” by Zagat and has been named among The Knot’s Best of Wedding Caterers for 2010 to 2015, including for 2016 as well! Having won 6 years in a row, The Raging Skillet is in The Knot’s hall of fame!
Rossi is also an acclaimed writer for many publications, such as The Daily News, The New York Post, Time Out New York and McSweeney’s to name a few. She has been the food writer of the “Eat Me” column for Bust magazine since 1998 and hosts her own hit radio show on WOMR and WFMR in Cape Cod called “Bite This,” now in its twelfth season.
She has been featured on “The Food Network” and “NPR” and is a popular blogger for “The Huffington Post.”
She is also the author of her new book “The Raging Skillet: the true life story of Chef Rossi, a memoir with recipes” who takes you for a wild ride behind the scenes of New York’s restaurant and catering world with her Jewish roots and her mother Harriet’s madcap adventures along the way. Rossi shares that her experiences ranging from her wild and wacky days growing up with her family, especially her mother Harriett, and then running away at 16 years old which led to living with the Chassid’s in Crown Heights, Brooklyn, helped shape her into the successful celebrity chef that she is!
Rossi’s motto is simple: “Molds are a delicious thing to break”
