Today on this 5FOR5 periscope, Caren Glasser talks about blogging basics.
1. What is a blog
a. A regularly updated website or web page, typically one run by an individual or small group, that is written in an informal or conversational style.
b. Until 2009 blogs were usually the work of a single individual occasionally of a small group, and often covered a single subject. More recently “multi-author blogs” (MABs) or collaborative blogs have developed, such as Huffington Post and Spark It Network with posts written by large numbers of authors and professionally edited. These blogs account for an increasing quantity of blog traffic.
a. Write original content that includes your keywords
b. Create title (make sure you use some of your keywords in the title)
c. Embed audio or video
d. Featured images – I suggest 640 x 480 pixels wide but you can resize what you have. Make sure you are starting with a larger picture to make smaller. If your picture is smaller, making it larger might make it blurry. Check out www.canva.com to create custom featured images
e. Add links to websites and/or external sources (these are called backlinks)
f. Create verbiage for your call to action
a. Focus Keyword: Pick the main keyword or key phrase that this post/page is about.
b. The SEO Title defaults to what is generated based on this sites title template for this post type.
c. Meta Keyword and description up to 140 characters – Include keywords as this is what shows up in searches
d. Set categories – This is what people search for when reading a blog
e. Set Tags that you used in your title, description and Meta description – These are the words that people search for when doing a Google search
a. After you have published your post share to any of the social media platforms you use
a. Promote via social media scheduling platforms. This brings traffic back to the collaborative blog.
b. Link to post from other content you create
c. Mention in your videos, podcasts or interviews
d. Insert into newsletters and emails.
