Writing a Blog? Why I L-O-V-E Bluehost
I ALWAYS quote the famous line from Field of Dreams–and when it comes to books and business, I will always dispute it.
Contrary to what the movie told us, and to the belief shared by many authors and business people, If we build it they WILL NOT necessarily come — unless we market effectively and remember to optimize our websites.
This is a HOT TOPIC! How do you sign up for web hosting without getting burned? Like everything else, do your homework.
The first thing to determine when you’re choosing a blog/web host is what you want. Is your blog meant for keeping in touch with friends and family only? Is it a private group? Or do you intend to garner a following for book sales or business purposes? Knowing what your intentions are is the first step in choosing the host that will best service your needs.
Here are a few pointers:
If you plan to build your own site, will the blog/web host teach you what you need to know based on your goals? Remember: when it comes to followers and subscribers, just because you build it doesn’t mean they’ll read your blog or buy your book. You need to go out and get them–CLIENTS and CUSTOMERS, that is.
Does the blog/web host you’re considering give you any guidance on how to get your site found?
Can you get email through your domain name? For instance, if people want to email me they would send messages to: firstname.lastname@example.org. There are also several other people who receive email through judithcassis.com. My admin, tech-support and assistant all have email addresses attached to my domain. (I am a client and affiliate of Bluehost.com)
Speed and space are also important considerations, but neither these nor anything else I’ve mentioned in this article matters if you don’t get what I consider to be equal in importance: GOOD CUSTOMER SERVICE.
I switched from my former hosting service to the one I use presently for that very reason. Bluehost customer service is impeccable. As a novice when it comes to technical matters and an extremely busy person I might add, this means everything to me. Long ago I recognized the importance of working with a company that cared about my business enough not to leave me on hold for 45 minutes or serve me only by machine. Bluehost.com has real people who will talk to me when I need them and an excellent chat service when I don’t have time for the phone.
1)I can host as many domains (blogs and websites) as I want for $4.95 a month. I search for and buy domain names in the back end and only pay one price if I decide to host them.
2) They also have an affiliate program, which means if someone you refer signs up for their service, they thank you by rewarding you. I am an affiliate and love bluehost.com but there are many companies so find one that meets your needs at a good price. Make sure you do your homework or ask associates for referrals.
I don’t believe in scrimping when it comes to running my business, but I ALSO don’t believe in paying more than what I should for excellent service. You should be able to find quality hosting for under $15 a month.
*Note: I’m paid a referral fee as an affiliate of Bluehost.com Be sure you ask about setting up your own referral arrangement with companies whose service you would recommend.
