The Power of the Pen
As I received a lovely thank you card the other day, I took a few moments to run my finger across the handwriting and realized how powerful a handwritten note can be. I could feel my friend’s energy as I read and felt her words that came from her heart. We’ve become so technologically advanced as we accept birthday wishes, thank you notes and other messages by text, social media and emails. Although the intention is valid, I once again feel the need to write about the “power of the pen” and what it means to me.
“When I place my pen to paper, there is the transference of energy that comes from my mind and heart to my hand into the pen and on the paper.”
When the recipient of my card receives that note, it is with my hope that they feel that energy as they read my handwritten note as well. I’m reminded of the scene in one of the Charlie Brown animated tv specials when he was always so disappointed when he didn’t receive mail. Even though it’s nice to receive emails, I find it even more meaningful to receive a card in the mail as it feels like a missing piece of what once was my “normal”. I’ve grown to appreciate cards that have stickers that the sender has taken the time to attach, perhaps a picture within it to share with me, and other goodies. I was so grateful to receive a letter from my 6 year old granddaughter who decorated the envelope with her favorite stickers!
On the expanded manner of communication, I also have observed how social graces such as saying thank you and even hello, seem to be diminishing.
As my friends are always mindful and courteous, these are my observations and it’s with hope that these simple words will not fade into oblivion. “TY” just doesn’t cut it .. it’s like showing up for dinner and leaving before dessert is served .. it’s a half-way attempt to fulfill the meaning of the words that mean so much.
So, on that note, I say THANK YOU for reading my posts and I always welcome your comments! I will always believe in the power of the pen!
