Have You Ever Thought About What’s on Your Bucket List?

What’s on Your Bucket List?

Have you ever thought about your bucket list? It came up recently when my husband, Tom and I were having coffee and talking about our daughter who was in Germany on an internship. Her hard work and perseverance helped her to get a position assisting a Ph.D. student. She visited neighboring European countries on weekends. We are grateful that she can have this experience.

Tom said one day he would like to travel and see Europe and cross a few things off his list. I got to thinking about my list … my bucket list. What happened to my list! At one time I am sure I had a vast catalog of places I wanted to visit and things I wanted to do, but somehow over the years it has dwindled, and my bucket list is empty.

I wondered what caused my bucket to be empty … I sat there astonished for a few minutes and said: “I don’t have a list, what happen to my list?” My husband looked at me and said: “Start a new one, what do you want to do? I had no idea.

Bucket listDo you have a bucket list? What do you want to see? What would you like to experience?

I think there are positives, and there are negatives to having a bucket list. For me, maybe my lack of having one was because, for years I didn’t see how the items were attainable or affordable, or maybe my priorities changed. Maybe having a list of things I wanted to do before I die, or “Kick the Bucket” (from where the term comes), seemed too depressing.

I then thought of the positive reasons to having a bucket list. Creating a list of things I want to do can be motivating and generate goal setting ideas and plans. Also, it could give vacations more purpose and direction and maybe keep them from being meaningless experiences, just doing things for the sake of not doing something. As we get older, maybe it’s especially important to have quality vacations instead of quantity.

Having a bucket list and checking the items would be fun. So what do I want to do? At first, I wasn’t sure … but once the ideas came to mind, the list started to get longer and longer. I am going to have to hone my priority skills! I think I’d like to see Europe. My grandparents are from Italy, and it would be amazing to see where this part of my family started. Have you traveled back and traced your ancestry? What countries do you want to visit?

I looked through a travel book for more ideas; I’d love to see the northern lights. Have you seen this phenomenon? I would also like to see the Great Sphinx, Pyramids, Stonehenge the Grand Canyon, in addition to Mount Rushmore, to start. My bucket list is alive and growing!
