What Makes A Good Story?
Who doesn’t love a good book; the plot, the characters, the author, are just a few things that make someone pick what they do or do not read. But for those who want to write a book, there’s an outline you should follow if you want to be seen. So, what makes a good story? Here is my guide to writing a good book. (Keep in mind everyone’s ideas are their own, so this guide doesn’t change that. It’s more of a how-to guide to give you some points that I found helpful to me)
First off, pick a subject that you like.
But wait, I’m not the one reading the book, you say? Well, that’s true, but remember, you have to enjoy what you are doing, and the best way to do that is to pick something you really enjoy. Maybe it’s an autobiography about your childhood, or maybe it’s a guide to raising chickens. Either way, it’s something you know and love, and are fluent in.
Next, feel comfortable to just rant for your first draft.
Write everything you can think of that matches your topic. It might sound weird at first, but it’s just a way to make sure you get all your ideas out (don’t worry, you will check your grammar and spelling later)
Finally, have some friends or family read it over.
Yea, they might be biased, but at least you can get some feedback from people who might be part of your story. This way you can be prepared for what editors and publishers may say, but also, you will get a feel as to how your story is looked at in a public setting.
Once you have everything tripled checked, and you feel good about your work, go ahead and find a place to publish it. I have learned that while it takes time to find publications that take your style of work, once you do, it’s quite simple to send in your story. Then, once you do, depending on the feedback time, you just start writing a new one, and start all over again.
The important thing is to have fun. Writing should be enjoyable. As long as you have a good time, you will see the true meaning of being a writer
